2 Foolish Kings

Compromise- 1. a settlement of differences by arbitration or by consent reached by mutual concessions 2. Something blending qualities of two different things 3. conceding (surrendering) to something derogatory or prejudicial

From the definitions above it is obvious that compromise can be a positive or a negative thing. There are situations where it is necessary to find common ground when disagreements occur-such as incidents between people or nations. Also, there are situations where compromise can’t ever be agreed on by the opposing sides. Why? Because the stakes are too high and the enemy definitely cannot be trusted.

As children of God we can never allow ourselves to make deals with the devil. You may say “No Christian would ever do such a thing anyway”. In the Old Testament Saul, who was anointed the first king of Israel, compromised because of impatience and the fear of man. He was supposed to wait for Samuel(Priest and Prophet) to return and offer the sacrifice for the people of God. Instead he totally went against God’s command and offered it himself.

His excuse was that he feared the enemy(Philistines) would destroy them if he didn’t offer the sacrifice himself. Saul was self-willed not God lead.

Though he had been anointed king he hadn’t been called to be a priest. We should never attempt to do the work that God has appointed someone else to do. It will result in failure every time. And we should never associate ourselves with what we know is evil—” Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” He called us out of sin and into His righteousness. The excuse that everyone else is doing it is useless when we stand before a holy God.

Another king, Solomon was the third and wisest king of Israel. Yet he became a most foolish man after multiplying wives, including foreign women. One sin lead to another and then he began worshiping idols that his strange wives had introduced to Israel. From that point on the poison of compromise resulted in the sacrifice by fire of innocent children to the idols of Chemosh and Moloch. (I kings 11). Anything we worship in place of the true and living God will cause us to lose our most precious blessings.

If we aren’t watching and praying and we don’t know the word of God as we should, Satan will be able to get a stronghold in our life where we will compromise the truth. Let’s not be a Saul who allowed impatience, fear, and pride to rule him. As a result, God rejected him. Nor let us become a foolish Solomon who was destroyed by greed, lust, and indifference. The division of the nation of Israel became the final consequences of his sinful actions.

Matthew 6:10-the Lord’s Prayer

Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name.Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven (left, remitted, and let go of the debts, and have given up resentment against) our debtors. And lead (bring) us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
